Google "Mobile May Day" is on it's way. Just over a year ago, Google began modifying its search algorithm to penalize websites that did not view well on mobile devices. This practice is going to become even more prominent starting this May as Google further modifies the algorithm. Read this blurb from the Google Webmast Central Blog.

Getting good, relevant answers when you search shouldn’t depend on what device you’re using. You should get the best answer possible, whether you’re on a phone, desktop or tablet. Last year, we started using mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal on mobile searches. Today we’re announcing that beginning in May, we’ll start rolling out an update to mobile search results that increases the effect of the ranking signal to help our users find even more pages that are relevant and mobile-friendly.

 If your website is not getting a SERP 1 status (Search Engine Result Page 1) then you may want to check if your website is Mobile friendly or not. While being mobile friendly is not as important as having great content, earning a SERP greater than that of your competitors may be enough to get you onto SERP 1!
